This is the second part of our presentation we gave at the SEO Campixx in March 2016. In the first part we discuss the future of mobile SEO and the changing role of the SEO manager.

With the eBay Kleinanzeigen Android app we were amongst the early adopters for app indexing. While plenty was being written about the topic already, we decided to dive right in – with enthusiasm and a healthy dose of pragmatism we catapulted our App content into Google’s Index.

Simply getting Google to index your app isn’t necessarily a massive project, especially if your app already supports deep links. However if your ambitions go beyond just getting app content into the index, then it is a different story. There’s more to mobile SEO than just indexing – naturally you also want to rank and offer your users the best possible experience on their device, and convert the traffic you get.

We have 5 practical tips from our own experience with app indexing, if you’re getting started they should hopefully help you get the important things squared away from day one, and make sure the project is a success.

Mobile searches on Google have long overtaken those on desktop. In reality this is a big challenge for Google, in particularas apps become more popular and the app store is used, a web search loses relevance. If Google wants to remain the one stop shop for search, then app results have to play an important role in the mobile search results. With app indexing the first steps have been taken. What comes next will mean a massive shift for mobile search, the SEO industry and our jobs as SEO managers.

We’re stoked to be writing the first lines of text for our new project DeepLinked.org. Deep Linking, App Indexing and Mobile SEO: these topics are as exciting as they are new – that is why we are writing about them.

Before we dive in we would like to introduce ourselves and provide some background on our motivation for doing this.

We, Lars and Adam, are both SEO Managers at eBay Kleinanzeigen – in other words: we do a little bit of everything. Aside from SEO Lars is also responsible for a range of topics like Online Marketing, Mobile Marketing, Brand and On-Site Marketing. Meanwhile Adam works in the so called Global Growth team of eBay Classifieds with other markets and focusses mostly on Product and Content SEO.

Wir both very interested in the topic of Deep Linking and Mobile SEO. We’ve been fortunate to be one of the early adopters of App Indexing at eBay Kleinanzeigen in Germany. The pace of change from desktop to mobile, and the potential for optimization – most recently with apps – has greatly changed our view of SEO.


Over the last few years the SEO industry has retained a distinct feature: despite the competitive nature of our business we still actively share knowledge. We SEOs know each other, meet up frequently at conferences and other events and network our blogs. With this blog we want to contribute as well. In particular we believe our hands-on experience and strategies for SEO in the mobile era will be a worthy contribution to the wider knowledge base and generate dicussion and insights from you (the reader, the SEO, the blogger) as well.
